About

radio actionHey friend! Thanks for checking out BackSpinRadio! If you haven’t figured it out yet, let me just tell you, I’m a HUGE fan of CCM, and since you’re reading this I have a hunch that you might be too.

Maybe your story is similar to mine, like any kid in the 80’s, I listened to Van Halen, (I’m partial to Van Hagar, can we still be friends?) U2, Michael Jackson, the Police, Prince, you know, basically anything they played on MTV. When I was exposed to Christian rock, I was instantly hooked. The big draw for me was the message. I liked the idea of cool music that supported and encouraged my young faith, while keeping the parental units of my back.

That initial love of all things CCM led me to a BA communications at North Greenville College in Tigerville,SC.  During that time I worked weekend overnights at  a local Christian AC station. Trying my hand at concert promotion, I was connected with a youth show called the Sound of Light. For 3 glorious hours every Saturday night the DJ, myself, and a constantly revolving door of kids took over the station, and blasted the best Christian rock, pop, and hip-hop we could get our hands on. Fast forward 15 years, and I was the show host, broadcasting to over 250 stations across the globe.

Life happens and things change, that’s just the nature of the world we live in. So after 15 plus years of doing radio, The show was done, and I had to figure out what I was going to do next. After a few years completely separated from the CCM industry God led me to start BackSpinRadio, a podcast and blog dedicated to connecting you to the Christian hits you remember, and the artists you love.

As far as family life goes, I’ve been blessed with an amazing wife, (Laura), and together we have 4, yes, F-O-U-R kids. Molly-Reagan is 10, and is the sweetest most compassionate kid I know. Liam (5), is a soft-hearted boy, who I pray never loses his tender spirit. Our youngest son Obie, is funny and witty even at age 3! Finley, the baby, has Daddy completely wrapped around her chubby little finger.

So that’s the inside scoop! Please stick around and check out some of the posts & podcasts that I’m most proud of. You can find them over on the side-bar. And, if it’s ok, I’d like to ask you to become part of our little CCM lovin’ community and subscribe to this blog, maybe that way we can get to know each other a little better, and I can send you classic CCM news, devotionals, podcasts, and the occasional goodie. Thanks again for dropping in, come back soon!

  1. Hey Bill! Mark Ferguson here from SUNDAY IN THE SOUTH, WSSL FM. I really like your new show! Even though southern gospel is y living and passion, while attending NGU in the 80’s I hosted (and poured my life into) a radio show titled, Christian Connections…a little ditty I programmed and hosted, mostly for Furman and North Greenville students at an AM station in Travelers Rest. My first shows that I promoted in Greenville were Dallas Holm and the Imperials with Russ Taft.

I have a question: I mc’d a show at the the Hanger in 2004 with a local group, Common Destiny (Phillips Family – two brothers and their sister) from Woodruff…they were opening for Need To Breathe. So, thats my question…what’s going on with Need To Breathe?? I couldn’t help but notice they closed the Tonight Show with one night last week?? Are they still doing christian concerts and reaching the lost or is the christian ministry over? I felt sure you’d know?? I look forward to hearing from you! May our Lord continue to bless your endeadors! Mark

    • Hey Mark good to hear fom ya!! Thanx for the good word! If you see fit to help a brotha out and spread the word to folks you know that would dig what we are doing. If they can’t catch it on the Z they can always get it on my blog.

ARuss Taff and The Imps!! I’m jealous! I saw RT one time in 89 with the Choir. Would have loved to have seen the Imps during the This years model/ free the fire years.

So N2B, a great bunch of guys! They have always been on the mainstream lable Atlantic so they have been reaching mainstream audiences as well as Christian. Although they have never been the type of bands to preach from stage but the messag in the music has always been clear. They always have time for Christian radio and will go wherever booked!

On a side note if you know of a radio gig, or a board op position I could use the work. I have been laid off since July 2010 and after 3 years out of radio I’m trying to get back into what I know best.

      Talk with you soon!
